What to bring to an in-person VE session

Required items

Photo ID

A driver’s license or state-issued ID is acceptable.

$15 cash

Please bring exact change if possible. Nothing larger than a $20 bill, please.

A pen

Please bring a pen for paperwork at the session.

If you are taking the Technician exam

Please bring your FCC-issued FRN number. This is a 10-digit number.

If you are upgrading to General or Extra

Please bring a copy of your current amateur radio license.

Optional items

  • A calculator. Please note that calculators on phones or tablets are not permitted.
  • A pencil
