Next steps after your ham radio exam

You passed. Here is what happens next, from FCC processing to getting on the air.

What to expect

Typical timeline

  • VE team submits your results to the ARRL VEC shortly after the session.
  • The FCC processes the application and notifies you of the required payment.
  • You remit payment to the FCC.
  • Once your callsign is active in the FCC ULS database, you can transmit.

If you do not see your callsign a few business days after payment, email us for help.

  1. Watch for your results email (the CSCE document) from the VE team.
  2. Keep an eye out for the payment request e-mail from the FCC.
  3. Remit payment to the FCC.
  4. Check the FCC ULS database for your callsign posting.
  5. Set up your station and make your first contact.
  6. Join a WEARC meeting or local net for support.
